About

‘Liam is a very talented young writer with a gift for observation, characterisation and the small dramas of everyday life which illuminates so much more than is said. There is empathy, with and subtlety in his writing and I can’t wait to see what he does next.’ – Alan Bissett, author of Boyracers

Liam Hagan lives among the bright lights and scenic sights of North Lanarkshire.

In 2020, he was awarded the Scottish Book Trust New Writers Award for fiction.

In 2026, he’s trying to finish what he started.

He is currently working on a short story collection. You can find a few of those under the stories tab above.

He realised a little later than he should have that it is incredibly difficult to write a novel (or two) but he is working on it (promise). You can find snippets of those under the stories tab also; Her. Life’s. Dream. is a coming of age story about Niamh, who dreams of scoring for Scotland at a World Cup, and her best friend Paige, whose dream is that she will live long enough to see it; The Pugilist follows Callan, a young working-class boy, who upon discovering that his Father runs an underground dogfighting ring sets out on a perilous journey to free the dogs and his family from their turbulent lives.

The time he spends on buses writing in his Notes app is bookended by waits, writing at bus stops for further, delayed buses.
